The former Barclays Bank building on Melbourne Street, Stalybridge, has undergone a complete transformation thanks to its current owners, Opus 4.

The design and build interior fit-out specialists moved into the building last summer.

They have now totally refurbished the offices to suit their needs, including creating James Bond and Willy Wonka themed meeting rooms!

Speaking at the relaunch event, marketing director Andrew Jackson said: “When we first moved in, the basement was a dumping ground, the old vault doors were still in place and the old vaults were there.

“The lift shaft which took the money from the ground floor to the basement was still there. We wanted to keep the lift shaft but there was just no purpose for it to be there, so unfortunately that was one of the original features that had to go.

“But anything that could stay has done. So we’ve still got the deep skirting boards, we’ve got high floor-to-ceiling heights.

“We’ve tried to keep the feature of the old bank vaults which is now a James Bond theme meeting room which seems to be a talking point!

“We’ve already had a few meetings there which have gone down really well.

“So, we’ve just tried to do it as sympathetically as we can and it was just borne out of the need to expand with the level of work that we’ve achieved in the last 12 months.”

Several local companies who have partnered with Opus through the Tameside Business Awards attended a special launch event last Thursday, including Brother UK, the Tweed Brewing Co and Florence and Amelia’s.

Banter Media, web design, video and a social media agency based in Ashton were also present. They are currently in talks to work on Opus’ website and managing director Seb Coleman-Celis was very impressed with the offices.

“It’s remarkable to think that this was an old bank at one point,” he said.

“It’s really amazing what they’ve done with the space, it’s incredible, I love it.

“It’s really creative, really fun and it looks like a really nice place to come and spend most of your day.”

Founder of Banter Media, Liam Wright added: “I think what’s amazing is it looks like the building was designed to be as it is.

“It doesn’t look like it was designed for a bank and twisted to be something else.”

Opus 4 were named joint winners in the Construction Business of the Year category in this year’s Pride of Tameside Business Awards.
