Mossley Town Team has scooped a Royal Horticultural Society Award.

The RHS North West in Bloom ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ Awards are given out to volunteer-led community gardening groups which are focused on cleaning up and greening up their local areas.

Two voluntary sub-groups of Mossley Town Team have been busy in the town centre over the last two years, which has resulted in the award.

The Business and Residents’ Association of Bottom Mossley plus the Top Mossley Group are both supported by Mossley Town Team. Volunteers have planted tubs, baskets and planters.

The judges were particularly impressed with the recycling improvements to bins on Manchester Road and by the number of volunteers involved.

Chairman of Mossley Town Team Mark Brakspear said: “We were absolutely delighted to find out Mossley had been awarded a Level 4 ‘Thriving’ category for all the changes brought about by planting up and cleaning up the town centres!

“This is just one place off the highest possible award. Many congratulations and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who organised and helped in any way.

“It’s brilliant to win an award,” added Mark.

“But what the team find most rewarding is the improvement to Mossley, the number of volunteers and helpers involved and the great comments we’ve had from local residents.”

Other voluntary groups in Mossley also did well, including the Friends of Mossley Park, Muddy Buddies and Brackenhurst Play Area (MERA) in Micklehurst, the Garden Gang from Roughtown Community Centre and Barkwell Lane.
