Glossop woman scoops free sofa from donating a fiver

A Glossop woman is sitting comfortably after winning a brand new sofa as a token of her generosity in helping the lives of disadvantaged children.

Freya Davie, from Castleton Grove, Gamesley, entered a DFS ‘Give Me Five’ competition for £5 and beat thousands of others who have helped raise over £1.3 million in aid of the BBC’s Children In Need charity.

It comes as Freya and her partner Simon Hammond were on the look out for two new sofas for their living room and, thanks to the DFS fundraising campaign, claimed a free three-seater and four-seater from the French Connection range worth £1,700.

Freya, 35, was ‘absolutely delighted’ to find out she’d got her order completely free but never thought she’d win.

The shop assistant told the Chronicle: “It was definitely a surprise! We ordered the sofas regardless and they asked if we wanted to donate £5 to Children In Need, which was no problem, and it was just through luck that they entered us in the prize draw and we won.

“Me and my partner have five children between us, two each and one between, so I thought helping children and young people in communities across the UK, through BBC Children In Need projects, was the right thing to do.”

She advised: “If you are looking for a sofa I’d definitely recommend that you get down to DFS.”

You could also be a future winner by entering the monthly prize draw when purchasing any furniture at DFS – just by giving a fiver to Children In Need.
