The Friends of King George the Fifth Playing Fields are having a blooming great year!

The Ashton group has scooped a Level Five Outstanding Award in the North West In Bloom awards ceremony in Southport.

Linda Sidebottom from New Charter Housing said: “New Charter are happy to support the In Bloom event for all the work that local community groups do to make the North West a nicer place.”

The award was presented to Cllr Yvonne Cartey, the park’s bee manager Sue Ruffley and chairman Alan Fish. The award was for the volunteers who make the park a better place.

These include the Georgie Porgie’s cafe, the keep fit path and outdoor gym equipment, the trees and plants which the volunteers have planted, the bees, the plastic bottle green house and tomatoes, the pool club, the extra bins and recycling.

If you would like to volunteer in the park with any of the above projects contact Alan Fish at [email protected] or on 07931 765120.

Visitors to the park are urged to use the free Keep Fit Path for a run or walk in a clean environment.
