Big hearted Glossop people have dug deep and hit a new Poppy record.

Last year Poppy Appeal chief George Wharmby was proudly announcing that collecting cans were bulging with a record breaking £18,700.

Twelve months on and the total has topped £19,000.

For a town with a population of around 40,000, that’s fantastic.

George said: “I would like to thank the generous people, organisations and businesses of Glossopdale who have contributed to the 2015 Poppy Appeal.

“Also the Scouts, Guides and the two cadets who collected, alongside over 70 local people, to achieve the magnificent sum.

“We could not reach this target without their hard work and dedication.”
