Villagers Urged to Scoop the Poop

A village is pooling its resources in a battle to get dog owners to clean up their act.

Three organisations in Tintwistle are paying for £200 worth of signs pleading with people to scoop the poop.

They say hitting irresponsible dog walkers with constant reminders is a way of making Tintwistle tidy.

All they need now is for villagers and people who drive into Tintwistle to walk their pets to take notice.

They also want bins to deposit the bags – particularly on the United
Utilities-owned reservoirs land.

Chairman Bill Clarke said: “You see poo bags hanging in the trees.”

Parish councillor David Marshall is so determined to get owners to act responsibly that he turned up to the latest council meeting with a sign he had made.

“I am looking for sponsorship,” he said, showing the metal scoop the poop notice.

“I would like to put them up around the reservoirs and they need to be substantial,” he added.

First to offer sponsorship was parish and borough councillor Pat Jenner, who promised £100 from the allocation High Peak Council makes to all its councillors, to distribute to good causes.

In minutes, the parish council was offering £50 and Tintwistle
Children’s Gala Committee £50.

The amount is now enough to pay for least 50 notices.

Cllr Jenner will also ask the borough council to put the signs on lamp-posts on the A628 that runs through the village.
