A petition has been launched to protect train services on the Manchester to Hattersley and Glossop line.

The ‘Save our Services’ petition was launched last Friday at Newton for Hyde Railway Station by Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonathan Reynolds in protest against the rolling stock.

The MP was joined by local party members and Cllr Peter Robinson, Executive Member for Transport at Tameside Council.

The petition calls on the Government to ensure that local rail services suffer no loss in capacity, no reduction in the frequency and the timing of services and that the standard of rolling stock does not decrease when existing trains are removed from April 2016.

Mr Reynolds said: “Yet again rail commuters in the North are losing out, this time seeing rolling stock going to the West Midlands.

“This loss of trains will hit commuters at numerous stations who rely on this route in order to get to work in Manchester City Centre.

This is yet another example in a series of announcements in recent months that have hit rail infrastructure in the North and which make a mockery of this Government’s ‘Northern Powerhouse’ agenda.”
