Escaped Prisoner with links to Manchester

If you see this escaped prisoner, DO NOT APPROACH HIM.

That’s what police are telling us today after 47 year old John Rooney absconded from HMP Springhill, Aylesbury, yesterday morning.

He was last seen on a bus travelling towards Oxford from Bicester shortly after 7am.

Rooney is white, 5ft 8ins, slim, with brown hair.

He has tattoos on his left arm, his left wrist, hand and fingers, as well as on his right hand and letters on his right fingers, and a scar on his right hand.

He also has tattoos on his face, but these may not be clearly visible.

When he left the prison he was wearing a blue top, blue jeans and was carrying a bag.

Rooney, who was sentenced to 27 years in prison in 2003, is known to have links to Manchester.

There are substantial grounds for believing Rooney represents a risk of harm to the public.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Joe Banfield said: “Thames Valley Police is working closely with the Prison Service to try and locate Rooney.

“Further, if you are reading this and have any information whatsoever about Rooney’s whereabouts then please call police via 101.

“Members of the public are advised not to approach him but to call 999 immediately.

“If you don’t feel comfortable speak directly to the police then you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.”
