Former England captain and chair of Rugby Football Union Bill Beaumont was in Tameside at the weekend to officially open the refurbished Eric Evans Lounge at Aldwinians RUFC.

The upgrade to the club’s social facilities have been made possible thanks to grants being made available in the lead up to the 2015 Rugby World Cup, which kick off in England and Wales next month.

Eric Evans captained  England himself in the 1950s, with his career having started  at Aldwinians.

His daughter Louise also attended the official opening.

The Rugby World cup comes to Manchester in October, when England face Uruguay at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Bill praised the local club, but didn’t have quite so much praise for the England team after their defeat to France in their world cup warm up match on Saturday night.
