A partially sighted Audenshaw pensioner has become the first person in the world to have his vision repaired with a ‘bionic eye’ implant.

Ray Flynn’s eyesight had deteriorated over the last eight years from the most common cause of sight loss in the developed world – age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The 80-year-old is the world’s first patient with what is called dry age-related macular degeneration to undergo the procedure.
