A celebrated local artist is turning heads at his first-ever exhibition in Stalybridge.

For Roger Conway’s latest exhibition, ironically entitled Looking South, puts his 50 paintings on show, but all upside down.

People’s Gallery Manager, Gordon Clegg, told us: “We’ve had a lot of people walking past the Gallery and coming in saying: “Do you know all of your paintings are hung upside down?”

“There was always that risk to the exhibition. I told Roger that the people of Stalybridge might just see an upside down painting. But I do understand where he’s coming from.

“He said that by hanging his paintings upside down, people will look at it in a different way to how they normally would.”

More on this in this week’s (12th Feb) Tameside Reporter out now.
