Having first met at a dance class, the Civic Mayor and Mayoress of Tameside were a step ahead of most of the nation in their love of all things ballroom.

Now they are hoping to share their passion for dancing and encourage others to have a go while also raising money for local good causes.

Cllrs Dawson and Jackie Lane will be either attending or hosting a tea dance in each of the nine towns of Tameside during March and April 2015.

They will bring along cakes to each dance for everybody to enjoy during the break.

The cakes will be sponsored by Cosmo Leisure of Stalybridge and as a small thank you for company’s kind support, the Civic Mayor and Mayoress would like to host a short game of free Bingo with prizes.

There will also be a raffle in aid of the Mayor’s Charity Appeal Fund, which supports a number of Tameside causes.

There is an open invitation for people to attend the brand new tea dance at Ashton Town Hall on March 18, from 1pm to 4pm.

There will be no charge and entertainment will be provided by vocalist Gina Kay and MCs Frank and Pauline Gough.

While at Dukinfield Town Hall on March 13, the mayor and mayoress have teamed up with the Time of Your Life Club (TOYL) and again booked vocalist Gina Kay to entertain guests from 10am to 12 noon.

TOYL is for people 50 plus and the group is happy to welcome new members to their regular Friday morning get togethers.

Please contact mayoral secretary Joanne Green on (0161) 342 2103 to book a place at either of the above events or find out about the arrangements for the tea dances in other towns.

Cllr Dawson Lane said: “We both love to dance and, although lots more people are now enjoying watching dancing on the TV, we would love to encourage more people to actually take up
dancing themselves – either by attending one of the brand new tea dances or getting involved in an existing group.

“It’s a great way of staying active and healthy while meeting people and sharing time together. Do come and give it a try.”
