Stalybridge St Pauls Cricket Club celebrated the season gone by last Saturday with a presentation evening at Cheetham Hill Road.

Those who turned up on the evening were advised to bring one pound coins with them too, as the presentation evening coincided with a race night held to raise funds for the club.

The season, containing a mixture of both highs and lows, ended with the first team placing seventh position on 278 points.

The second team had a more memorable campaign and ended the season on a high, placing a brilliant second position.

Players and associates of the club celebrated the night away and were treated to a light snacks and a quiz.

Recipients of awards during the night included Richard Wilde and Mike Mallett, who scooped the 1st team batting and 1st team bowling accolades respectively.

Chris Fish certainly made an impression last season in all aspects of the game and his efforts were rewarded with the 1st team all-rounder and best bowling performance.

Mark Connolly’s commitment to the club caught the eye of the chairman and was duly rewarded with the 1st team general excellence and Chairman’s trophy award.

Mike Whitworth was a wizard with the bat last season and saw his big hitting earn him the first team highest score award.

The second team were also acknowledged on the evening ensured a super end to the ceremony. Joe Robinson and Muddy Bashir collected the second team batting and second team bowling trophies respectively, whilst Pete Coxon’s all-round ability ensured he was handed the general excellence award.

Robinson found himself taking centre stage again later in the evening, this time for the clubs best batting aggregate.

Other players who received a warm reception for their efforts included Stuart Barnes, Mike Hatton and Mike Mallett, who picked up the Club Fielder, Most Improved and Players Player of the Year Award.
