A new pizza bar inspired by those in New York opens in Manchester today. Our Reporter Max Wieland went along earlier this week, and below, he gives us a Pizza his mind.

CRAZY PEDRO: Opens his doors to the public on the 28 November.

CRAZY PEDRO: Opens his doors to the public on the 28 November.

The team from popular bars such as The Liars Club (underneath Crazy Pedros) and Black Dog Ballroom have come together to launch this new quirky venue.

The funky pizza parlour just off Bridge Street has the makings of a real stable-weight in the area, with everything from exposed bricks, a musical mural ceiling – think of bands such as Stone Roses, Courteeeners and Red Hot Chili Peppers – and a décor that slashes between Mexican murals and various takeout pizza boxes – look out for Giordano’s pizza box, the best pizza I’ve ever tasted, sorry guys! – Plus a range of peculiar and frankly brilliant ornaments.

Various attractions range from an extensive cocktail list, some cracking craft beers, a musical ambience that matches Pedro’s design and a simple but thought-provoking pizza menu.

The huge 16 inch thin-crust creations may be a bit on the crispy side, but are undoubtedly Crazy Pedro’s main pulling power – because to put it simply, the pizzas are huge.

Right up my Street

The toppings sometimes border on the ‘crazy’, but it is undoubtedly very fun and very unpretentious. My personal favourite was the Cuban, which comprised of House Sliced Ham, Roast Pork, Salami, Swiss  Cheese, Pickles and Mustard.

Originally this venue – in between Deansgate and Spinningfields – was only going to be a ‘part-time pop-up bar’ but unsurprisingly, the owners have changed their mind.

This is a place that is certainly going to become a success and one that has a lot to offer would-be punters.

It’s certainly right up my street and one that doesn’t cost you a lot of dough.

It will open from today from midday until 4am.
