Hyde Cricket Club skipper Danny Berry could barely contain his delight after he led his team to their first title in 33 years.

What looked a difficult game on paper turned into an afternoon of celebration as Hyde claimed victory over Marple by 10 wickets in less than four hours.

Marple could only reach 110 all out, while Hyde hit a resounding 115-0.

After lifting the trophy, Berry said: “It’s amazing. I never thought I’d get my hands on this trophy.

“It’s something I never thought would happen considering we have been so close for so many years, but we’ve been amazing.

“The winning shot highlighted our season.

“We’ve played positive cricket, we’ve played no fear cricket and for Khalid Sawas, who is a new player this season, to scoop one over (the wicketkeeper), for six is unbelievable.”

Like many of his colleagues, Berry has come through the junior ranks at the club and he admitted that he had fulfilled an ambition in leading his club to the title.

“When I got the captaincy the late Pete Bolger said to me that I could win the league for this club, but I don’t believe that I’ve won it.

“But I believe the team we put together has and I’m pleased I’ve led that team!”
