A major road in Ashton is expected to re-open shortly after a heavy goods vehicle became wedged under a railway bridge.

The incident happened just over an hour ago on Scotland Street (2.50pm) with rail services now back on track after suffering heavy disruption for 45 minutes whilst the bridge was inspected.

No damage has been caused but Network Rail has confirmed that they are now working with the Police to remove the vehicle.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We urge motorists to observe and obey warning signs when driving under low bridges.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that no injuries occurred in the incident and that the road should re-open shortly.
