Cllr Joe Kitchen performed one of his final duties as Civic Mayor of Tameside when he opened a new footpath to one of Tameside’s hidden gems.

The footpath at Pole Bank Park in Gee Cross is the latest in a series of improvements which have included repairs to the Victorian bridge and the installation of a woodland trail.

In what is a sort of ‘secret garden’ even to locals, the new footpath has been built in the hope that it will bring more visitors into the quiet and tranquil gardens.

The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Joe Kitchen, added: “I have driven past this place so many times but never visited, so it’s been a pleasure to come and visit the park for the first time and to open this new footpath.

“I was surprised to learn how vast the park is and to learn how much work goes into its upkeep from the volunteers who look after it.

“Now that I am finishing my duties as Mayor it certainly will not be the last time I come to visit this brilliant park.”
