Glossopdale Community College spent a day learning all about the music industry when special guest former JLS member Oritsé Williams called in.

It was part of a special visit by Organisation UK Music which ran workshops for students about songwriting and the music business.

There was also a talk by BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins and a representative from Universal Music.

The visit was organised by High Peak MP Andrew Bingham who
after a chance meeting with UK Music in Westminster was passionate about having them visit the area.

He said: “We live in a fantastic part of the world, but we are rural, we’re caught between Manchester and Sheffield and things like this always seem to happen in the cities.

“One of the many parts of my job is to make sure that we are not left behind, we get these opportunities and actually we’ve done really well because this is only the second time in the whole country that this has happened.”

More on this story in this week’s (26th June) Tameside Reporter out now and keep an eye out for the full interview with Oritse Williams coming soon.
