A vision to save the historic Victorian Ashton Swimming Baths while transforming them into a multi-million pound hi-tech business hub has secured vital funding.

The news comes in the face of previous public calls to demolish the ‘eyesore’ building after the St Petersfield site was developed into a new business quarter several years ago.

It means that employment will be brought back into one of Ashton’s most iconic buildings by next July, with work expected to commence in October.

Deputy Leader at Tameside Council John Taylor said: “The opportunity to bring some of the most exciting high-tech companies to Tameside can now become a reality because along with this development, companies will also have access to some of the fastest broadband speeds in the country with the ongoing work at the BT roundabout in Ashton.”
