David’s our burger king.
Monday 5th May 2014 @ 12:00 by Anna Fletcher

A chef is hoping to be crowned a ‘burger king’ after a couple of mouth-waterers that blend Manchester, Morocco and the High Peak, won gold medals.

David Amesbury has only been in the Mettrick’s Family Butchers’ team, which has outlets in Glossop, Hadfield and Stalybridge, since Christmas.

But he’s already following in the footsteps of his boss John Mettrick.

The 20-year-old chef and apprentice baker/butcher has developed two innovative burger recipes.

His High Peak Moroccan Burger beat off stiff competition to win the regional heat of the Eblex England’s Best Burger Challenge in the independent butcher category.

While David made it a golden double with his Manchester Steak Burger, in the innovative section.

With a record number of entries received, only 23 companies achieved a gold award to go through to the
final round of judging, which took place on Wednesday 30th April.
