Ofsted St Dam- staff

Ashton schools St Damian’s and Samuel Laycock are celebrating Ofsted report success.

St Damian’s Roman Catholic Science College in Ashton, is celebrating a total turnaround in its fortunes, having been placed in special measures just a few years ago.

The latest report by Ofsted saw the school being marked ‘Good’ in all categories after inspectors visited last month.

The success follows on from a letter the school received last year stating it was among one of the 100 most
improved schools in the country.

Headteacher Sheldon Logue said: “This report is the culmination of many years of hard work. Many tough decisions have had to be made but the outcome of these decisions is clear for all to see.

“The dedication and commitment of my great staff has been really humbling. Without their determination and professionalism the school would not be where it is today.  I am truly proud of each and every one of them, support staff, teachers and leaders.

“Now is the time to reflect upon the massive improvements, consolidate on their achievements and work towards our vision, which is simply to become outstanding!”

The report highlighted strengths in the core subjects of Maths, English and Science.

Good teaching was also seen across other subjects including RE, MFL and Art.

The students commented that beha-
viour has improved ‘beyond recognition’.

This is a reflection of better quality teaching coupled with high expectations.
