Police are appealing for help after an 84-year-old woman had her jewellery ripped from her fingers when raiders broke into her home.

The attack happened at around 10pm last Thursday when three offenders climbed through an open window of a house on Oldham Road, Ashton, and made their way into the living room where the elderly woman was sitting.

One of them put his hand over her mouth while the others pulled jewellery from her fingers, wrists and neck before they made their escape.

Detective Sergeant Michelle Lomas said: “As well as suffering significant bruising, she has been left mentally scarred by what happened.

“The offenders have been aggressive and not cared she was elderly.

“In fact, we believe she was targeted due to her vulnerability.

“Unfortunately, the only description we have of the offenders is that they were male, wore black balaclavas and black gloves.

“I would ask anyone who may have seen something suspicious or who may have been offered a ring, bracelet and necklace under suspicious circumstances, to contact the police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on (0161) 856 9311 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
