Mel, Julie and Bekky

Stalybridge’s Mel Price is making Girl Guiding History as she takes on the role of Assistant Region Chief Commissioner.

Mel is one of just two women chosen to take on the role, the first time the roles have ever been offered to volunteers in the North West of England.

The role will see Mel supporting Region Chief Commissioner, Julie Bell, and helping to lead Girlguiding’s 68,000 members over the next five years along with fellow assistant Bekky Ashmore.

Mel said: “I am delighted to be assisting Julie in her role as Region Chief Commissioner and together with Bekky we are aiming to open up membership to more girls and adults across the North West.

“It’s really exciting to think of all the opportunities that this will hopefully offer to the region’s young women.”

Now with more than 20 years of Guiding service, Mel has a wealth of knowledge and experience from her role as Girlguiding Manchester’s County Commissioner – a guiding county that covers an area stretching from Wythenshawe to Glossop with the majority of its membership based in Tameside.
