Bottoms up! A new Droylsden development has held a ‘topping-out’ celebration ceremony to mark its completion in style.

The new build, at Lancaster Road in the town, by New Charter Homes, had its final roof slate put in place by Tameside Council leader Cllr Kieran Quinn under the watchful eye of the men who built it from the ground up.

Workmen and site managers from local contractor Rowlinson Construction were joined by the architects and other members of the design team to watch as Cllr Quinn climbed to the top of one of the 14 new homes in the Sunnyside area.

Everyone who played a hand in building the homes then enjoyed a hearty chip buttie lunch.

The £1.3m development has been built in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency to provide accommodation at affordable rent prices.

All of the houses are sustainable, family homes in a very popular area.

New Charter is building hundreds of homes across Tameside over the next few years, with more than 150 of them already complete.

Sean Stafford, New Charter’s director of investment said: “We’re really pleased to be able to celebrate this significant stage of this development with such a great team.

“It’s not often that we get to celebrate with the work men and women who helped build it, so it’s really special for us all to get together.

“These are fantastic new homes for our tenants and they will be of real benefit to the community.

“We are grateful to Councillor Quinn for finding the time to participate as he has.”
