Shoppers are being urged to vote for the historic Ashton Market Hall as it seeks to win national recognition.

The National Association for British Market Authorities (NABMA) is asking people to vote for their
favourite market in their annual Market of the Year awards.

Supporters of Ashton’s much-loved indoor market can go online at www.nabma.com/vote and simply type in “Ashton-under-Lyne Market Hall” to vote for it to win the prestigious ‘Britain’s Favourite Market’ title. The deadline for voting is 13 January.

Ashton Market Hall has long
enjoyed a popular reputation among shoppers from across the region,
offering a wide selection of high-quality, value goods.

However, it continues to move with the times – the beautifully
renovated market hall has free wi-fi and food court seating area to
increase its appeal for business and social meetings.

The market has impressive eco-credentials and was last year named ‘Britain’s Greenest Market’. It has also signed the national ‘Real Deal’ charter to affirm its commitment to supporting traders and consumers in creating a safe, fake-free shopping zone.

Tameside Council Deputy
Executive Leader Cllr John Taylor, who is responsible for markets, said: “I know Ashton indoor market has many loyal customers who have shopped there for many years. It also continues to be a modern, forward-looking and appealing focal point in the borough, attracting new custom all the time.

“This is a great opportunity for people to voice their support for the market and shopping locally – it will take just seconds to click on the
online link and register your
vote.”

The Council has also entered the market into NABMA’s ‘Best Love Your Local Market Event’ category for its vibrant events and activity programme during Love Your
Local Market Fortnight in 2013 and its close involvement in the launch of the very popular and successful two-week Ashton Christmas Market in December.
