Multi-million pound plans for former swimming baths
Tuesday 10th December 2013 @ 22:36 by Mark Phillip

The hub of Tameside is set for further investment and regeneration after it was announced on Tuesday that the old Ashton Swimming Baths will be the focus of a multi-million pound investment.

Speaking at the last Full Council Meeting of the year, Tameside Executive Leader Cllr Kieran Quinn boldly publicised the exciting plans.

“Tonight I can announce that after decades of false starts and false hope we are going to redevelop the old Ashton Baths,” he said.

Cash in part will come from the European Regional Development Fund.

The aim is to transform the derelict listed building so it can house state-of-the-art digital start-up units for new  technology and digital media companies. Situated at the Henry Square end of Stamford Street, the baths were originally opened at a cost of £16,000 in 1870.
