Ashton Christmas Markets
Friday 6th December 2013 @ 19:54 by Nigel Skinner

Get set for two-weeks of festive family fun with the launch of the spectacular Ashton Christmas Market.

The vibrant event opens from 3pm on Sunday with a Winter Wonderland Lantern Parade, Christmas lights switch on, a magnificent firework display and musical entertainment.

The lantern parade will start at 4pm, creating a magical trail of lights across the town centre.

Only people who have registered will be able to take part in the procession although everyone is welcome to enjoy the parade by lining the route.

Following the lantern parade, all of Tameside’s brass bands will congregate in front of Ashton Town Hall at 4.45pm to perform en masse for the first time ever.

This rousing performance will precede the Christmas lights switch on and fireworks, which are due to run until approximately 6.30pm.

Celebrations will continue throughout the two week market, which will run until  December 22, with daily live music, choir and brass band performances as well as free children’s rides on a traditional helter skelter and carousel and free parking in selected town centre car parks.

The Christmas market will include 30 traditional wooden cabin stalls as well as a stage and covered bar and offer a fabulous range of festive fare – from delicious food and mulled wine to beautiful gifts.

Some of the enticing goods on offer include pancakes, chocolate fountain, cupcakes, bratwurst, gourmet burgers, speciality hot chocolate, aromatherapy candles, jewellery, personalised ceramics and handmade crafts.

Following the opening Sunday – when festivities will run from 3pm until 9.30pm – Ashton Christmas Market will open Monday to Friday 3pm to 9.30pm, Saturday 10am to 9.30pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm.

Free parking will be available from 10am to midnight throughout December in Wimpole Street, Crown Street, Mill Lane and Union Street car parks in Ashton. For further details, including a list of traders and full programme of entertainment, see or look out for updates on Facebook and Twitter .
