The wraps have come off an exciting multi-million pound vision to totally transform the heart of Ashton within the next few years.

Tameside College and Council chiefs stood shoulder to shoulder on Tuesday as they unveiled the ‘VisionTameside’ masterplan.

It involves massive investment in a £76m three phase project which will see the development of three new college buildings, two in the town centre, and the demolition of the present council offices.

The project, entitled ‘VisionTameside’, will also provide a third ‘state-of-the-art’ building as part of a major redevelopment at the College’s Beaufort Road site.

“The key to Tameside’s long-term economic success is investing in its young people. ‘VisionTameside’ will deliver this,” announced Cllr Kieran Quinn, Executive Leader of Tameside Council.

“This programme will not only give a massive boost to the Ashton Town Centre economy by bringing in thousands of students and teaching staff, but it will also enable us to complete our plans to redevelop the Town Centre and  Market Ground area and make it into a more modern, attractive and convenient place to visit and shop,” he added.
